Refugees may be allowed to work here

PUTRAJAYA: The government is considering allowing the 80,000-odd refugees in the country to work.

The Home Ministry and Wisma Putra are expected to sit together to look at the issue following calls from many sectors asking the government to allow the group to be work here while waiting to be resettled in third countries.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the matter was being considered due to the fact that the refugees’ stay in Malaysia was only temporary.   More....

Malaysia plans IDs for refugees

KUALA LUMPUR - MALAYSIA plans to issue identification cards to refugees who are recognised by the United Nations, allowing them to stay in the country temporarily and avoid arrest as illegal immigrants.

Malaysia, which has declined to join the UN convention on refugees for fear of attracting a flood of migrants, previously has arrested refugees frequently as illegal aliens. Operasi besar-besaran tangkap PATI

PUTRAJAYA: Jabatan Imigresen akan melancarkan operasi besar-besaran di seluruh negara mulai 15 Februari ini bagi menangkap dan mengusir pendatang asing tanpa izin (Pati), termasuk yang tinggal melebihi tempoh di negara ini.

Ketua Pengarah Imigresen, Datuk Abdul Rahman Othman, berkata operasi itu akan ditumpukan kepada sektor barisan hadapan seperti bidang perkhidmatan.

Pati yang ditahan boleh dikompaun RM30 bagi setiap hari tinggal melebihi tempoh atau maksimum RM3,000, manakala yang memasuki Malaysia tanpa dokumen boleh juga dikenakan sebat.

Abdul Rahman berkata, majikan yang didapati melindungi Pati pula akan didakwa mengikut Akta Anti Memperdagangkan Orang 2007, selain Akta Imigresen 1959/63.

“Apabila menggajikan Pati, ia menimbulkan risiko eksploitasi, keberhutangan dan perhambaan oleh

Majlis Ramah Mesra Wanita Rohingya - MUR

SETAPAK: Majlis Ramah Mesra Wanita Rohingya bersama Prof Dr. Azizah Kasim (Pensyarah UKM Bangi, yang diadakan di Ibu Pejabat Majlis Ulama Rohingya disini hari ini.

seramai 40 orang Wanita Rohingya dan 10 kanak-kanak hadir dalam majlis tersebut, yang turut hadir ahli jawatankuasa kepimpinan Majlis Ulama Rohingya iaitu Ustaz Mohd Amin (Pengerusi MUR).

Ustaz Mohd Amin berkata: hari ini saya rasa amat gembira kerana ramai wanita rohingya dapat berkumpul dan dapat beramah mesra antara satu sama lain, dan beliau juga tidak dapat menahan kesedihan kerana nasib malang saudara-saudari yang berada di Negaranya Arakan, mereka dalam keadaan ketakutan yang dizalimi oleh junta tentera Myanmar. Myanmar to take back 9,000 Rohingyas soon

Myanmar yesterday said it will soon take back 9,000 registered Rohingya refugees out of 28,000 now staying in two camps in Cox's Bazar for nearly two decades.

The assurance came at the fourth foreign secretary-level talks between Bangladesh and Myanmar at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bangladesh.

A similar step to repatriate the 9,000 refugees was initiated in 2005 after the Myanmar military ruler identified them as their nationals. But only 90 refugees could be sent back between January and May that year as the process stopped following tension on the border. More...

PUTRAJAYA - Jumlah pelarian Myanmar di rantau ini termasuk di Malaysia akan terus meningkat jika demokrasi di negara berkenaan tidak segera dipulihkan.

Timbalan Presiden Pusat Informasi Rohingya, Mohd. Rafiq Hamidullah berkata, keadaan pemimpin demokrasi Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi yang ditekan junta tentera mungkin menyebabkan lebih banyak etnik minoriti melarikan diri ke negara lain.

In the article Formula Pakhang was written that 2000 Rohingyas got special allowances, housing, and nationality, which is not true.
